Bob Starkey was appointed Major League Baseball’s Chief Financial Officer and Senior Advisor by Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. on December 4, 2014. Starkey oversees financial operations for MLB and plays a key role on industry economics and analysis. Starkey’s association with Major League Baseball began in 1991, when he was engaged to analyze the industry’s economics and financial condition. In the ensuing years, he worked closely with Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig and Manfred on a variety of industry economic and financial matters, including collective bargaining, the creation and administration of the revenue sharing system and debt-service rule, numerous new stadium projects and various club financial, valuation and transaction matters. Starkey has supported numerous MLB committees and special projects. Starkey began his professional career as a CPA in the Minneapolis office of Arthur Andersen. After being admitted to the partnership in 1987, he soon became the partner-in-charge of the Andersen professional sports industry group. Juan J. Martinez

Juan Martinez joined Knight Foundation in May 2002 and is currently Vice President/CFO and Treasurer. As a member of the executive committee, he is a partner in the development and implementation of the foundation’s strategy. Juan is also responsible for directing all of the foundation’s financial management, reporting, and regulatory compliance, overseeing the investment portfolio and partnering with program staff in development of grants and program-related investments. Juan also manages and sits on the board of the Knight Enterprise Fund. The Fund was developed by the Knight Foundation to act as a venture capital investor in early-stage media companies that align with the Foundation’s program mission. Juan started his career at CPA firm Arthur Andersen & Co. He left after four years to found a film production company and a financial consulting practice focused on providing financial services to small to mid-sized corporate clients. Prior to joining the foundation, Juan was the manager of financial planning for Telemundo Group Inc. He is an alumnus of Florida International University and the Wharton School of Business. He has been a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida since 1992. He serves on the board of directors of the Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron, SnagFilms, the Florida International University Foundation, and the board of trustees of the Miami Foundation. In 2010, Juan was named Non-Profit CFO of the Year by the South Florida Business Journal.

He started his career with KPMG having spent most of his time in their high technology practice. Since then, as a Chief Financial Officer he has had significant experience working with technology and service based businesses, two of which he helped launch from inception. Additionally, he was instrumental in successfully designing and implementing a reorganization plan which enabled a tech enabled telecommunications company to rapidly grow over $100 million which led to an eventual recapitalization of the company at a double digit multiple. Additionally throughout his career he has been actively involved in a broad spectrum of strategic initiatives including, but not limited to, raising venture capital, bank financings, recapitalizations, and acquisitions. Mario is a certified public accountant and holds a BBA in accounting from Loyola University. Mario and his wife Linda actively support Thumbuddy Special which is a charitable organization that provides adaptive equipment for children with special needs. In addition to enjoying an early morning run, Mario is always cheering on his favorite professional baseball team located on the north side of the city.

His duties also included the creation and implementation of strategic initiatives. Working alongside my wife, Bernadette Coleman, building Advice into a world-class interactive agency is my passion. I awake everyday thinking of ways to utilize my business management and marketing expertise to develop and implement solutions to help our clients reach their goals. I have experience in corporate governance, risk management, marketing and strategic planning, as well as accounting and finance. My favorite past time, outside of the business, involves backyard gatherings with friends and family, and especially, a competitive game of Washers.
