Daniel Knepper

Dan Knepper serves as Chief Financial Officer and Managing Vice President at the Institute for Justice. As IJ’s primary financial officer, Dan oversees IJ’s budget, spending, and financial and investment management. Dan also oversees multiple business units and the day-to-day operation of IJ, including IJ’s Clinic, legislative efforts, legal and regulatory compliance, contracting, and back-office functions. Dan serves as IJ’s corporate Secretary and Treasurer and is a principal liaison with IJ’s Board of Directors. Dan received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center. While at GULC, Dan served as Editor and Special Projects Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal, which published his note, “Eliminating the Federal Subsidy in Kelo: Restricting the Availability of Tax-Exempt Financing for Redevelopment Projects.” Dan is a member of both the New York and DC bars. Prior to law school, Dan worked at IJ as an evidence analyst, where he assisted with the Lakewood, Ohio, eminent domain challenge, and he was a summer law clerk at IJ in 2004.

Pat Miorin
Executive V. P. / CFO of AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association)
Pat Miorin joined AFCEA International as the Chief Financial Officer and International Treasurer in August 2009. In this role he oversees the financial operations of AFCEA International, the AFCEA Educational Foundation, and the Building Services Corporation. Prior to starting at AFCEA, Mr. Miorin was the Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer for the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg, PA. In this position, he was responsible for the consolidated financial operations of the Harrisburg Diocese, the only diocese worldwide that has fully centralized accounting operations and annual operating revenues of $175 million. Additional responsibilities also included Human Resources, Information Technology and Development. Before the Diocese of Harrisburg, Mr. Miorin was the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Executive Vice President of the Pennsylvania Builders Association. In this position, he managed all financial and accounting operations for the state association, a wholly owned management company and a benefits trust company. The combined revenues for these organizations exceeded $150 million. Prior to entering the not-for-profit sector, Mr. Miorin worked in public accounting for 12 years. His last position was an audit manager at a regional CPA firm in Lancaster, PA. Aside from his financial experience Mr. Miorin is retired from the 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard after a 20-year career. He enlisted in 1982 and in 1985 completed Officer Candidate School. Positions held included platoon leader, executive officer, company commander, division liaison officer and division personnel management officer. Mr. Miorin was branch qualified in both the Medical Service Corp and Infantry. Mr. Miorin holds a BS degree from Lebanon Valley College with a double major in Accounting and Management. He is a member of the American and Virginia Institute of CPAs and is also licensed in Pennsylvania for multi-lines insurances.

He previously worked at St. Joseph’s Carpenter Society, a housing and community development organization in Camden, New Jersey, where he helped develop financial literacy education for future low and middle income homeowners and assisted with accounting and finance functions.
