Dr. Vik Bakhru is a physician, senior healthcare executive and entrepreneur who has served in numerous executive roles in healthcare and business. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer at ConsejoSano, a leading venture-backed health technology platform that enables payers and providers to simplify care, increase engagement and lower costs. Previously, Dr. Bakhru was Chief Operating Officer of First Opinion, Inc. Before First Opinion, Inc., Dr. Bakhru served as Chief Medical Officer for Abercrombie & Kent Global Health, a Fortress Investment Group portfolio company that facilitates high quality, affordable medical travel. In addition, Dr. Bakhru worked as a Director at New York Presbyterian Hospital/The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell in New York City where he managed an annual spend base of approximately $600 million for the purchase of all clinical goods and services. Prior to his role at NYP, Dr. Bakhru worked with the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC), a non-profit he founded while completing his medical degree at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Washington, DC. FIMRC (www.fimrc.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing health care access in underserved areas of the developing world through a network of health centers in nine countries across 12 project sites. FIMRC now boasts a team of over 3,000 full-time staff and volunteers. Dr. Bakhru serves on the Board of Directors for several organizations including the Nanubhai Education Foundation, Aspire Global Health and FIMRC. Dr. Bakhru’s professional affiliations include membership in the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the American Telemedicine Association. He has been practicing medicine since 2007 and is currently a licensed physician in 17 states (AZ, CA, DC, FL, GA, IL, MA, MD, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, UT, VA, WA, WI). He is clinically active as a private practitioner and as an on-call physician at UCSF Medical Center and Main Line Health. Dr. Bakhru earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The George Washington University as part of the Seven-Year Integrated Medical Program. After his undergraduate and medical education in Washington, DC, Dr. Bakhru did residency training in general surgery in Philadelphia and subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Recognitions include the American Medical Association Foundation Excellence in Leadership Award, The George Washington University Award, the Kaiser Family Foundation Grant, the Becker’s Hospital Review: Rising Stars in Healthcare Award, and most recently was named to the Wharton Forty Under Forty for 2017. Dr. Bakhru gives over a dozen keynote speeches and participates in numerous panel discussions per year. His topics include clinical medicine, digital health, entrepreneurship, global health, innovation, leadership, Medicaid/Medicare, patient engagement, product development & technology, social determinants of health, robotics, and user experience.
